How do you turn bar length into rebar weight?
Count the bars on the schedule or the plan, multiply by the cut length in feet, then multiply by the nominal pounds per foot for that bar size. Report length and weight. Keep hooks, laps, couplers, and mesh off that product so a reviewer can check each allowance.
What nominal weight applies to each bar size?
These are the customary nominal weights for deformed bar sizes, in pounds per foot. Use them to convert measured length. Confirm the bar designation on the structural notes before you extend a price.
| Bar size | Nominal weight (lb/ft) |
|---|---|
| #3 | 0.376 |
| #4 | 0.668 |
| #5 | 1.043 |
| #6 | 1.502 |
| #7 | 2.044 |
| #8 | 2.670 |
| #9 | 3.400 |
| #10 | 4.303 |
| #11 | 5.313 |
| #14 | 7.650 |
| #18 | 13.600 |
What does the weight line look like?
Example: 40 bars of #5 at 20 feet is 800 linear feet. At 1.043 lb/ft that is about 834 pounds of bar, before any lap line. A Class B lap, if the detail requires one, is additional length on its own row, not a silent percentage inside the 834.

Questions about rebar weight
Are these pounds per foot a project price?
No. They are nominal weights used to convert length to pounds. The bar grade, coating, and supplier price come from the specification and the quote, not from this table.
Where do lap splices go?
On a separate line. Adding a lap percentage inside the bar weight hides the allowance. The detail or the cited lap class should be named on that line.
How is welded wire fabric different?
List mesh by sheet or roll designation and area, including the specified lap. Do not convert it to an equivalent loose-bar ton unless the quote asks for that comparison.
